The Art of Video Games book review. Classic Game Room reviews THE ART OF VIDEO GAMES: FROM PAC-MAN TO MASS EFFECT from Chris Melissinos and Patrick O’Rourke published by Welcome Books in 2012. Roger Ebert says video games can never be art, this book shows quite the opposite and cites examples and captures developer interviews to prove its point. As video games are embraced as a new emerging art form the Smithsonian American Art Museum holds an exhibit called The Art of Video Games exhibit. This book is written by Smithsonian curator Chris Melisinos and features examples of art in video games from the past 40 years. Marvel at the art and creative work that went into games like Combat, Space Invaders and Pitfall on the Atari 2600. Chris then compares the early examples to ’80s 8-bit classics such as The Legend of Zelda and 16-bit masterpieces like Phantasy Star IV. Modern releases like Bioshock, Minecraft and Mass Effect 2 complete the picture as developers earn bigger budgets and more advanced tools to complete their visions… but does it make better art? This hard cover book is a great addition to any gaming collection and makes a nice coffee table showpieces as well. Printed on glossy, high quality paper with great pictures and interviews you’ll dig The Art of Video Games the most.

LINK TO PART 2 of ALIEN RACES: www.youtube.com IF YOU WISH TO KNOW THE SOURCE OF THIS INFORMATION, SEND ME A PVT MESSAGE… (NOT SIMPLY A COMMENT HERE: THEY DON’T ALL “FALL” INTO MY INBOX)..I’LL B HAPPY TO ANSWER YOU! CHEERS! Some of the pics on the video (alien races pics) are straight from the books pages, others were stapled to the book (and belong to video games/tv series, etc) and (i believe) serve as an illustration of the race, they used it either because they do not have pics of them and these are the closest thing to how those races look like or because they are exactly like the race looks like…the video game production company that i mentioned (Bioware) worked with different movie and gaming companies throughout the years, helping them with the “creation” of different alien races…the book is filled with hundreds of hand-written notes on the pages, whomever owned the book before us kept on updating the book till recently, both with pics and information! that is why we have such recent info on alien visitations to our planet on the book…One of these people (the previous book owner) is still alive, and we speak with him often.. …Bioware worked with the producers of several TV series/movies when making alien creatures !
I have to get that book at some point. It seems to be a great coffee table book. Btw. I have a little collection of art books myself and make some reviews for art books from time to time. I have yet to do some videos though. Thank you so much

Rolling Thunder rules! If ever there was a game that could made into a movie and actually be good (but they’d have to use a different title since there’s already a movie called ‘Rolling Thunder’). From a graphic design standpoint, I’d say they were spot-on with the cover art since the idea was to conjure nostalgia.
Roger “Eggman” Ebert is just another hoity-toity old coot in a suit with a turkey neck.
WOW
bioshock is defiantly the most visually appealing game ever made.
I just tried to have a staring contest with Mark.
I lost.
