Bohr Living
Trust 8/2008
As Director of The Hartford City Public Library, I, The
Library Board of Trustees,
The Hartford City Public Library Staff and Community
would like to thank The Bohr L
Living Trust for Arlene Bohr’s generous donation to the
library in her husband
Harry Bohr’s name.
Harry was one of our great patrons who used the library
daily and wanted to do everything he could to help the library and the
community. Harry was born in Hartford City, graduating in 1931, during the
horrible financial crisis of the century. During this time there was unlimited
travel by train, and during his teenage years Harry, with his best friend Ralph,
decided to ride the trains as teenage hobos and see the country. Harry wrote a
book about his adventures as a hobo entitled Teenage Hobos a Memoir.
Similar to the story of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn
floating down the Mississippi River on a raft, Teenage Hobos is the tale
of two sixteen year old friends who joined the hobos riding the rails during the
Great Depression. Harry’s book is available for check out at
The Hartford City Public Library.
After his hobo travels, Harry worked in the glass
cutting trade until his retirement. Harry and his wife Arlene traveled
extensively but always called Hartford City home.
We at the library all miss Harry’s talks and
encouragement for the library. He would have been thrilled with all of the new
technology and advances the library has made. He always encouraged Indiana
authors and genealogy pursuits. We hope to use Arlene’s generous donation in
Harry’s name to to further these endeavors with possibly a new microfilm reader
with newspapers on CD and materials for our new Indiana Room in our future
expansion of the library. Arlene’s gift will make our continued support
possible for advances the library needs to make in our great community!
Thank you,
Vicki Cecil, Director
Hartford City Public Library
